Our office uses digital radiography. For the patient, this means a reduction in exposure to radiation. This digital system does not use processing chemicals so it is also environmentally friendly.
Tomograms are exceedingly accurate, low radiation (safe), and reproducible x-ray images of the jaw joints. Although this technology is over 40 years old, its value has only recently become apparent to those in the dental profession. Why? Everyone has heard about "TMJ" problems being associated with the jaw joints. These problems could be merely joint noises on opening or chewing. They sometimes progress to pain in the joint and/or pain in the muscles of the jaw, face and neck. People with "TMJ" problems often report frequent headaches, sinus disorders and ear pain that are not easily corrected by their physician. Such symptoms and others are at times associated with teeth and jaws that do not work in harmony with each other.
Our primary role is to make the teeth fit properly and to produce the fullest, healthiest, and most natural smile (i.e., facial and dental beauty). To us, this also means ensuring the best possible harmony between the teeth and jaw joints. Recognizing the importance of proper diagnosis and creating the best possible coordination of the teeth and jaw joints.
Tomographic x-rays improve the diagnosis of all our patients regardless of the reason that brought them here. Because we believe tomograms are so important to providing the best possible orthodontic and "TMJ" result, we include the cost for tomograms in our orthodontic fee.
